Under the bill, youths would be transferred to circuit court for trial as adults when charged with serious felony offenses and if they used a gun when allegedly committing the crime. The measure would apply to youths 15 years old and up.

North Carolina Republican activists have chosen the person running the state party's day-to-day operations to become its next chairman and succeed Michael Whatley, who is now the Republican National Committee chairman. Voting Tuesday night, the state GOP’s Executive Committee members elected party Executive Director Jason Simmons as state chairman over Lee County party Chairman Jim Womack. Simmons had received an endorsement for the job from former President Donald Trump, who also had made Whatley his handpicked choice to succeed longtime RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel this month. Simmons worked as state director on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign in North Carolina and oversaw Trump campaign operations in some Southeastern states in 2020.
