Kentucky lawmakers have given final approval to a bill meant to combat teen crime. The bill is intended to transfer more youths for trial in adult courts when charged with gun-related gun offenses. The Senate passed the bill Wednesday and sent it to Gov. Andy Beshear. The bill is part of a broader push to toughen many penalties in Kentucky's criminal code. Under the bill, youths would be transferred to circuit court for trial as adults when charged with serious felony offenses and if they used a gun when allegedly committing the crime. The measure would apply to youths 15 years old and up.

Online records show Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Melissa Boyd was booked in the Shelby County Jail on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, a judge revoked her bond during a hearing in Memphis after she tested positive for cocaine and violated conditions of her release. Elected in 2022, Boyd is charged with coercing, influencing or attempting to influence her former campaign manager to testify falsely in an official proceeding. She has pleaded not guilty.
