A new Kentucky law aimed at curbing youth vaping is being challenged in court. News outlets report the Kentucky Vaping Retailers Association, the Kentucky Hemp Association and four vape retailers filed a lawsuit last week in Franklin Circuit Court challenging the constitutionality of the bill. It would require that any vape products sold have approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or have a “safe harbor certification.” They argue that the requirement would make most of their stock illegal and would put them out of business. Retailers say the bill violates the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which grants due process. State officials named as defendants declined to comment.

Jail records show the rap artist known as GloRilla has been charged with drunken driving in Georgia. GloRilla was charged Tuesday with first-offense driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also charged with having an open container of alcohol and failing to obey a traffic control device. Gwinnett County Jail booking records show the 24-year-old artist was arrested by police in Suwanee. The suburban community is about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. The artist's real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods. The jail records do not indicate whether Woods has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

A convenience store chain where President Joe Biden stopped for snacks this week while campaigning in Pennsylvania has been hit with a lawsuit by federal officials. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Sheetz Inc. discriminated against Black, Native American and multiracial job seekers by automatically weeding out applicants whom the company deemed to have failed a criminal background check. The EEOC filed suit Wednesday — the same day Biden stopped at a Sheetz market in western Pennsylvania.  Sheetz is based in the state and also has stores in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. The privately run family-owned company says it “does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.”

Fellow musicians are paying tribute to Allman Brothers guitarist, singer and songwriter Dickey Betts after his death at 80. The band says Betts was passionate about everything from music to fishing to golf and he excelled at whatever captured his attention. Guitarist Joe Bonamassa says that seeing Betts in concert made him want a Les Paul guitar. Berry Duane Oakley, the son of Allman Brothers bassist Berry Oakley, credits Betts for believing in him, taking him on the road and teaching him what his late father meant to the band.

Thousands of ordinary people who helped clean up after the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico say they got sick. A court settlement was supposed to help compensate them, but it hasn’t turned out as expected. A large majority got only the minimum award and had to file individual lawsuits to recover more. However, attorneys familiar with the issue say only one person has received a settlement after suing — and that took extraordinary luck and effort. Judges have dumped plaintiff experts. BP has fought every case. And lawyers sometimes have done a poor job representing clients. The entire sprawling process has left those who jumped into action after the biggest offshore oil spill in U.S. history stranded.
